Handquilted Nine Patch

What a project this has been! I needed to use up scraps, so I put together a 70" x70" top. I  really don't why  I left it a square shape  (HMM ??)  but I did and then I started handquilting it ...  over a year ago. A thumb \hand issue put  handquilting on the back burner. Surgery fixed the problem, but the recovery took a long time. So with a new and improved  thumb  the UFO (unfinished  object)  made a reappearance. OH  happy day.. another UFO done! This would easily cover a twin bed, or make a great large couch quilt  or a good sized wall quilt. The hand quilting is cross-hatched over the center squares and the border is kind of a  half shell  pattern. If handquilting didn't take so long I would probably do more of it, but it's time consuming and  there's all this fabric in my sewing room calling my name. My next project... an outside wallhanging to replace the faded, tired looking one that's

hanging out there now. 

 

Wow...ITs HOT!

Its been a week  of intense heat and humidity - 95 degrees -but feels like 115,  --Yikes!!  The corn is tasseling and loving the tropical conditions but it too is ready for a break. Kali takes a leisurely swim at the pits to cool down , goes for a ride to dry off and then heads for the AC... did you know she's our 3rd daughter and very smart ,too !

A month ago I finished this couch quilt, named "Sunset Over the Lake". I didn't put any batting in it as there was a chance it maybe taking a trip to Europe and had to fit into a backpack.I came to the conclusion..there needs to be something for fill to bind it together and to equalize the shrinking of fabric when its washed and dried.  I don't think it made it in the backpack ,but it has been used around the lake and beach to lay on and watch the sunset. Stay cool everyone,, and don't forget to provide plenty of water and shade to the pets outside.

Hidden stars couch quilt

  Its been busy around the farm... Hubby has finally gotten to the field and all the corn is planted and he's gotten a good start on the beans. I got my garden planted  started the big job of mowing the lawn and Monday,  helped move daughter #1 and her husband back to the area. Plus...I  finished this couch quilt!  This is a subtle color combination ( Pottery Barn style) ... kinda blue - gray border and star points with off whites and tans. Do you see the stars?  Fat centers with little points. The next quilt top is done but I need to piece together the backing... and I am going use quilters dream  cotton batting. Wondering if any one else has used it and how it compares to warm & natural as far as weight. I would like a summer weight batting, but not poly, any suggestions.

Bordering pinwheels

This bordering pinwheel quilt has been done for a while ... ( procrastination played a part in the delay of getting it on the blog  and I don't even have a good reason why). I love the size  and the colors (after washing & drying it, 56" x 63").

Hubby asks .. and now what are you going to do with that one?? HMMMM... I haven't thought much about it .. maybe give it away, send it to Japan, give it to a very

special friend as wedding,  or a graduation gift. Maybe sell it... or make lots of this size and then have "The Farmer's Wife has a Sale". I make quilts because... I can , ...it   keeps me sane , and occasionally drives me insane, ....and  I could be doing worse things.  By the way..2 more are in various in stages...this  rainy weather has made for great quilting days..but some sunshine would be welcome!!
