Summer is here

When I think of the 4th of July several things come to mind.. a time to celebrate our country's freedom, gatherings with family & friends , outdoor activities, and gardens just on the verge of providing quantities of  fresh produce and flowers galore.

The flowerbeds are filling up with color . Volunteer snapdragons made it (with a little help from some marigolds) made my job of planting pretty easy this year. The vegetable garden (raised beds) are starting provide plenty of food for the table. Fresh lettuce , small green onions and peas are the current veggies with some squash, tomatoes, potatoes, and beans starting to blooming like mad.  Around the farm the blackberries are ready to be picked for jelly. Yes..jelly!!  Its a pain (really, thorns & mesquites) to pick them but 1 basket of berries will make enough jelly to last us 2 years. So with that said...I will put on my suit of armor and go brave the  elements.
